WELCOME

From its humble origins of 32 girls in 1949, to its present size of approximately 135 campers, Merriwood has grown under the leadership of three generations of Millers.  Susan Miller Hild is Merriwood’s 3rd generation camp director.  A longtime independent school educator, Susan spent 32 years as a 4th and 5th grade teacher in NYC, San Diego, and West Hartford, CT.  Susan is currently the president of New Hampshire Camps and is a board member of ACA New England. Susan owes much to her dad and mom, Gary and Judy Miller, who ably ran the camp for many, many years, after inheriting the legacy begun by Gary’s mother, Janet “Mom” Miller.  The continuity of three generations of Millers running the camp operation is a benefit that separates Merriwood from most other camps.  The current generation is actively involved in maintaining and improving upon Merriwood’s traditions of excellence.

Our philosophy at Merriwood is to encourage each camper to be resilient, determined, engaged, and patient as she moves towards her personal, athletic, artistic, or leadership goals.  Excitement and affirmation of the experience at Merriwood comes not from a camper’s comfort of the familiar or what’s easy.  Instead, the energy, spirit, and goodness of camp unfolds because of how much is different and challenging that they may thrive not only as a camper but as a person, long after they return home.

We welcome you to learn more about a summer at Merriwood.   You’ll find "Merriwood Magic" is contagious, so come join the fun!
