OUR HERITAGE

Janet (Mom) and Gordon Miller became involved with the long established Camp Moosilauke in 1938. Ten years later Mom Miller had the foresight to start a camp for girls, which she called CAMP MERRIWOOD. Thirty-two girls enjoyed that first year. Their names are on a plaque in the dining room which we see every day.

MERRIWOOD TODAY

From 32 girls the first year, Merriwood has grown under directors/owners Judy and Gary Miller and their children to the present size of 125. The site remains the same, but many expanded facilities have enhanced our instructional program of sports and the arts. As directors/owners of Camp Merriwood, Gary and Judy are fortunate to have their children play an active role as third generation directors. Gary has retired from Horace Mann School in New York City after twenty-seven years as Director of Admissions. Judy is involved in many areas of camp. Daughter Susan has taught for over twenty years in private schools grades 1-5 and is vital to the daily operation of Merriwood. Son Mark is a very visible presence during the summer along with being our own resident "Tim the Tool Man" and our photo guru. In the winter he lives in Park City, Utah, where he owns a winter antiques business. The continuity of 3 generations of Millers running the daily operation of Merriwood is a benefit that separates Merriwood from most other camps. The current generation is actively involved in the operation on a daily basis and we bring over 160 years of combined experience to Camp.

The "MERRIWOOD MAGIC" is contagious. Come join us in the fun!

“I've met so many new friends,

they're like a second family to me now.  I can't wait to get back!”

“My grandmother, mother and sisters all attended Merriwood.

It's a family tradition that we all cherish.”

“Best summer of my life!  Everyone is so friendly and welcoming.  I can't wait to come back next year.”
